Energy Storage for Schools and Nonprofits

Made In The
USA

Keep the Lights On. Stay in Control. Reduce Energy Costs.
Newport Solar’s battery storage solutions help schools, nonprofits, public facilities, and government organizations across Rhode Island improve energy resilience and manage long-term energy costs. Whether paired with solar or installed as a standalone system, commercial battery storage can reduce peak demand charges, provide backup power for critical loads during outages, and support participation in eligible utility demand-response programs.

Protect Critical Infrastructure
Schools, nonprofits, shelters, and public facilities rely on consistent power to keep essential operations running. Newport Solar’s battery storage systems can be designed to provide backup power for critical loads during a grid outage, including security systems, emergency lighting, communications equipment, IT systems, and refrigeration. For organizations serving the community, that added resilience can help maintain critical services when grid power is unavailable.
Smarter Energy Management
Battery systems can be configured to help lower demand charges and increase on-site use of solar energy. Rhode Island’s ConnectedSolutions program rewards eligible organizations for reducing demand during periods of peak grid use. Combined with available state programs and incentives, battery storage can help qualifying organizations reduce upfront costs while improving long-term energy management.
Seamless Integration. Reliable Results.
Newport Solar has been designing and installing clean energy systems across Rhode Island since 2009. Our full-time, in-house installation team includes licensed electricians and experienced solar professionals, with many team members bringing nearly a decade of experience with Newport Solar. Because our crews are employees, not subcontractors, we maintain direct oversight of workmanship, safety, scheduling, and field execution from start to finish.
Each system is designed to work with the site’s existing infrastructure and installed to meet applicable code requirements with minimal disruption. The result is a well-coordinated installation backed by an experienced local team that understands the project from design through completion.

Designed Around Your Facility
Every school, nonprofit, and community facility has different energy demands, backup requirements, and infrastructure.
Our team evaluates your electrical system, energy usage, critical loads, and long-term goals before designing a battery storage system around your facility. We coordinate system design, permitting, utility requirements, and installation to create a solution that integrates smoothly with your existing infrastructure.

What Our Clients Say
"The entire crew at Newport Solar were efficient, timely, clean, and totally professional. When we had a problem with roof flashing that our builder (this was a new home install) was unable to solve, Newport Solar stepped in and solved the issue using their own roofing contacts. Furthermore, given the increase in electrical costs, this timely investment has an even shorter payback life than 6 months ago when we first discused the installation!!"

Frequently Asked Questions
Are incentives available for battery storage for schools and nonprofits in Rhode Island?
Yes, qualifying battery storage projects in Rhode Island may be eligible for state rebates and utility programs. Eligibility depends on factors such as the organization, utility account, system size and equipment, and current program requirements.
Can battery storage keep an entire facility running during an outage?
It depends on the facility’s energy needs and the size and configuration of the battery system. Battery storage can be designed to support selected critical loads or, where appropriate, a larger portion of the facility.
Newport Solar evaluates the facility’s energy use, critical loads, and backup power goals when designing the system.
Can battery storage be installed without solar?
Yes. Battery storage can be installed as a standalone system or paired with solar. When paired with solar, the battery can store excess solar energy for later use. If the system is designed for backup power, that stored energy can also support designated loads during a grid outage.
